Eli Kahn (After Ours) returns to The Alluvion with a brand new touring trio Sugar Bomb and a performance by Detroit artist Na Bonsai and her band. The vibe for this show: groove-jazz, improvisation, feel good rhythms, Afro-futurist modern soul, and top notch musicianship.
SUGAR BOMB
Sugar Bomb is an instrumental groove jazz trio formed in 2023 in Asheville, NC. Known for their dynamic range in taste and performance, they are often described as modern, playful, and refreshing.
The trio consisting of Jacob Bruner (keyboards), Eli Kahn (bass/guitar), and Joe Enright (drums) draw from a wide range of influences spanning classical and jazz to fusion, hip hop, and electronic music.
Often categorized as jazz for simplicity’s sake and perhaps highlighting their love for improvisation, Sugar Bomb creates a genre-defying kaleidoscope of musical expression through sensitive, yet high-energy performance and composition.
Their first studio album, fittingly titled “Sweet + Explosive”, demonstrates this dynamic range on 2 corresponding sides of a vinyl record, & they will be embarking on several tours this summer & fall to promote it.
NA BONSAI
Na Bonsai is a Detroit-based guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and graphic score composer crafting emotionally resonant soundscapes that blur the lines between neo-soul, electronic, and Afro-futurist traditions. Her music draws on improvisation, nature, and speculative storytelling, inviting listeners into sonic worlds that are both intimate and expansive.
Her latest single, “Invisible Fist,” is the lead release from her forthcoming debut album, Obsidian Bloom, set to arrive in September 2025. The album expands on her signature blend of genre-bending sound design and lyrical vulnerability, rooted in Black feminist futurism and dreamlike introspection. Previous releases include the bold, synth-driven single “Planet Paralysis” and her EPs Alkhemy and Inner Magic.
A founding member and former songwriter of the indie-soul band Honey Monsoon, Na Bonsai has since emerged as a powerful solo artist with a multidisciplinary creative practice.
Her work extends into sound art, scoring, and collaborative production. She has contributed to projects as a sound designer, music supervisor, and engineer, with a growing portfolio of interdisciplinary work that includes graphic scores, spatial audio, and live improvisation. Whether on stage or in the studio, Na centers emotional honesty, sonic storytelling, and Black feminist futurism in everything she creates.
