The return of The Mad Angler and The Mad Cellist at The Alluvion.
Cellist Crispin Campbell joins forces with Michael Delp, aka The Mad Angler, in an evening of music and spoken word. The duo will perform from their recording “The River Under The River- The Mad Angler Meets The Mad Cellist”, a series of improvisations coupled with Delp’s mad angler poems, a curmudgeon’s view of the world of water and spirit.
Joining Crispin and Michael will be two major Michigan musicians: dobro master Joe Wilson and jazz pianist Steve Stargardt. Together they will weave a tapestry of words and music, from down-low blues and gospel to sublimely ethereal jazz voyages.
Campbell takes the cello outside of the classical world into a free realm of associations with Delp’s earthy, transcendent poems, where the unseen world meets the human.
This unique performance is deeply inspiring and important to our region. The project was originally sponsored by F.L.O.W. (For Love Of Water), an environmental non-profit based in Traverse City.

MAD ANGLER TRIO
The deep soul of the cello,
the high lonesome sound of the dobro,
the flowing harmony of the piano
Inspired by the work of Interlochen poet Michael Delp (aka The Mad Angler), the band explores an uncanny region where a classically based cellist, a bluegrass dobro player, and a jazz pianist find common ground in an ever-changing musical conversation.
Giving a nod to Bach, some deep roots blues and Americana, with a natural connection to jazz standards, The Mad Angler Trio takes you on a listening adventure not to be missed.
