ANTHONY STANCO
Anthony Stanco, a trumpet virtuoso from Southeast Michigan, draws deeply from Detroit's rich musical heritage. Under the mentorship of influential figures like Marcus Belgrave and Rodney Whitaker, Stanco developed his craft and unique voice as a musician.
As the leader of his own quintet, Stanco has performed at notable venues such as the Java Jazz Festival and Cairo Jazz Club. He served as a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department, performing in countries including South Africa and Indonesia.
Stanco’s impact on the jazz community has been recognized with a Jazz Road Tours grant, which supported his national tour in 2024. He is also actively involved in outreach through Building Bridges with Music, a residency focused on promoting cultural understanding through music.
XAVIER DAVIS
Xavier Davis is an acclaimed jazz pianist, composer, and educator whose career took off when legendary vocalist Betty Carter invited him to join her trio in 1994.
Since then, he has performed and recorded with icons such as Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Marsalis, Regina Carter, and Christian McBride, appearing on more than 50 albums including McBride’s GRAMMY-winning The Good Feeling.
A two-time Doris Duke “New Works Grant” recipient, Xavier has released two celebrated albums as a bandleader and is Associate Professor of Jazz Piano at Michigan State University. Also a sought-after arranger and producer, his work spans collaborations with Tom Harrell, Carl Allen, and Lizzie Thomas.
RANDY NAPOLEON
Randy Napoleon is a forward-thinking guitarist deeply rooted in the jazz tradition and an Associate Professor at Michigan State University. After two decades on the road with legends such as Benny Green, Michael Bublé, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and a thirteen-year tenure with Freddy Cole, he now tours as a leader.
Napoleon has performed with Bill Charlap, Monty Alexander, Rodney Whitaker, Natalie Cole, and John Pizzarelli, appearing on more than seventy recordings, including Grammy-nominated albums with Freddy Cole and Michael Bublé.
He has graced stages worldwide—from Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House to the Hollywood Bowl and Lincoln Center—and his television appearances include The Tonight Show, Late Night with David Letterman, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Praised by George Benson as “sensational” and likened to Wes Montgomery for his balance of swing, soul, and tradition, Napoleon has released five acclaimed albums as a bandleader, most recently Common Tones on Detroit Music Factory.
JOHN WEBBER
John Webber is a prime example of the continuing stream of jazz musicians from the Midwest who have migrated to the jazz scene in New York — and who help keep it going strong as the center for jazz activity in the world.
Although Webber has established himself as a regular bass player with Johnny Griffin's group and records with Horace Silver and other musicians, playing with Bebop Generations — and musicians such as Payne and Alexander — has a special appeal.
SEAN DOBBINS
Sean Dobbins got his start as sought-after Detroit area jazz sideman at a young age, when he would regularly play with Blue Note artist Louis Smith. As Sean’s Career progressed, he found himself the recipient of many awards and accolades including the “Woody Herman Jazz Award”, an award for outstanding musicianship, as well as the Louis Armstrong Scholarship. Due to Sean’s great talent both as a player and an educator, he has been the focus of countless news articles, jazz radio programs, and documentaries.
Though still young by jazz standards, Dobbins has amassed an impressive list of playing companions. He has performed/toured/recorded with Johnny Basset, Benny Golson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Frank Morgan, Joey DeFrancesco, George Cables, James “Blood” Ulmer, Marcus Belgrave, Larry Willis, Rodney Whittaker, Claude Black, Johnny O’Neal, Paul Keller, Tad Weed, Kurt Krahnke, Jon Hendricks, David “Fathead” Newman, Donald Walden, Cyrus Chesnut, Barry Harris, David Baker, Randy Johnston, Marion Hayden, Mose Allison, and a host of other great musicians.
