These two artists shared the stage with Dave Sharp Worlds Quartet this past summer as special guests. We are honored to present them once again on our stage as featured artists, with all new music, and in trio form.

Featuring:

Sheela Bringi - Vocals, Harp, Harmonium and Bansuri Bamboo Flute

Elden Kelly - Guitar

SHEELA BRINGI

Indian American musician Sheela Bringi has been exploring the connections between her ancestral and actual homelands her entire life. The singer and instrumentalist plays the harp, harmonium and bansuri (Indian classical bamboo flute).

As a young woman Bringi was influenced by M.I.A. and Dead Can Dance, studied with Cecil Taylor and Meredith Monk, while at the same time deepened her studies with Indian classical masters like Pandit G.S. Sachdev and Ustaad Aashish Khan.

She has released two albums as a solo artist (“Shakti Sutra” and “Incantations”), and her work to bridge the musical worlds of India and America has been profiled by NBC News, NPR, Public Radio International, Yoga Journal, and others.

She has performed in a wide range of venues, including concert halls and universities presenting traditional material, yoga studios leading kirtans and in dance clubs overtop throbbing, bass-heavy beats (she’s toured with Karsh Kale, DJ Drez, and many others).

Bringi’s lush Indian vocals, soaring bansuri flute, and harp have graced 50+ world & new age records (including the Grammy-nominated Bhakti Without Borders) as well as several acclaimed film & TV scores.

Bringi currently studies Hindustani voice with Sri Subhashish Mukhopadyay (a topmost exponent of the Kotali Gharana). She is based in Boulder, CO where she teaches Indian Devotional & Raga Singing at Naropa University, and around the world.

ELDEN KELLY

Guitar virtuoso, improviser, composer and sound innovator Elden Kelly is one of the world’s best kept musical secrets. Audiences of all kinds are engaged by his expressiveness, technique and original thinking. As a solo and collaborative artist, his solutions to the questions offered in the format are engaging and unforgettable, and his contributions deep and far ranging.

He also has a strong and haunting vocal style which he incorporates from time to time with great effect. Whether performing his original music or transforming a known theme, it always has the mark of the exceptional.

Audiences in Michigan are familiar with his work with the Ann Arbor-based group Dave Sharp Worlds Quartet, having called the state home for over a decade before moving away. With the band, he has performed across the country and at Jazz Ascona in Switzerland ‘23 and ‘24.

There isn’t really anybody else with the breadth, diversity and richness of his musical blend. Classical and flamenco guitar influences combine with jazz, and true mastery of fretless guitars evokes Blues, Indian, Eastern sounds and beyond.
